Philosophy
As mentioned in the book "Doon, The Story of a School" the founders of The Doon School envisaged a school that would provide leaders in every sphere of national life, leaders who would show the way to their countrymen in shaping the destiny of India. The resulting education philosophy of the school was that the three things upon which a person's value as a member of humanity would depend would be the health and strength of his body, the vigour and accuracy of his mind and his character or personality.
Doon Online's philosophy is to inspire and remind both old boys and students (Doscos) alike of those ideals, beliefs and guiding principles that began the school and upon which the school continues to thrive. To always know what it takes to be a leader, to be a genuine leader and to make the kind difference that extends far beyond personal gain and benefit. Doon Online aims to do this by:
1) Highlighting leaders and role models from within the Doon community,
2) Bringing Doscos from around the world, different generations and different walks of life together for meaningful conversations,
3) Serving as a resource and support base for Doscos and all Dosco related endeavours.
Principles
We believe that the alumni community is not a corporation and nor are we. Our community is a fraternity of people with shared values, experiences and ideals. We will recognize and celebrate all initiatives that contribute to the greater benefit of the community
We also believe that no individual or group of people is more important or more powerful than others in the community. The strength of the community is based on everyone's contributions. Doon Online's committment to the community is to recognize and highlight those contributions as equally and fairly as possible.
Doon Online is for the community of doscos and friends of Doon. As a community driven initiative, it derives its strength from serving the community at no cost and hopes to always be a free, non-sponsored effort.
Ownership & Management
Doon Online is an independently run, non profit website owned and founded by Shiv Bir Singh (654-JA) and Reva K. Singh in August 1998. Doon Online is managed by:
Shiv Bir Singh, who runs the editorial and information technology areas of Doon Online. He has been conceptualizing, designing and building websites and intranets since 1995. In his day job, he works as a Director of Enterprise Solutions for . He graduated with honors from Babson College, Massachusetts, where he majored in Information Systems and concentrated in Creative Writing.
Rahoul Bir Singh, who runs the design, production and administrative areas of Doon Online. He is the principal of Rahoul Singh Architects, a design intensive studio with works that range from small-scale interior constructions / interventions to larger developmental projects. Rahoul Singh was trained in the Fine Arts and in Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design in the U.S.
Reva K. Singh, who provides editorial expertise to Doon Online. She has over 20 years of editorial experience in the publishing industry, both in India and abroad, and is a graduate of the Radcliffe Publishing Course, Harvard University. She is currently Editor of the Oberoi Group of Hotels and Resorts’ client magazine and before that was the Senior Editor of the journal World Affairs based in New Delhi.
